Accommodation

The spacious living room is a through room with French windows leading to the patio and garden and is furnished with a Clearview wood-burning stove and equipped with TV, DVD/Blu-ray player and ipod/MP3 docking station. The dining room, with a doorway into the garden, leads to a modern well-equipped kitchen area (with fridge/freezer, electric cooker, extractor fan, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher). Opening off the hall are a wet room and a small study/library with computer and Wi-Fi. Ample storage space for luggage, etc, is available in the basement where a tumble dryer is also provided.

Up the staircase (twelve treads, fairly steep, but furnished with a hand-rail) are three charming bedrooms. The first, overlooking the garden, is a twin-bedded room with en suite facilities. The second is a double, looking east across to the attractive seventeenth-century Castle Governor’s House. The third also faces east and can be set up as a double or twin room. Both these front rooms are served by the newly equipped Victorian bathroom just across the landing.

The Cottage is centrally heated throughout, with underfloor heating in the dining room and kitchen. Supplementary heaters are available, in addition to the wood-burning stove.

The sunny west-facing garden, enclosed by brick walls, is well planted with mature shrubs, climbers and ground-cover, including a fine Amelanchier Canadensis, with white blossom in spring and golden leaves in autumn. A view of St Mary’s church tower can be had from the lawn. The large patio provides ample space for outdoor meals in fine weather.

Family from Austria, 2019: Lovely Christmas holiday back in my English home – very nostalgic. Loved the woodfire with antique kindling basket and also genuine 1970s Mastermind. Lovely details.

Family from Oxford, December 2014:  Such a beautiful home and so thoughtfully furnished.  Works well with young children and a perfect location.

Visitors from Kent, February 2014: What a fantastic place to stay. Everything here you could possibly need. Loved the fire and fab downstairs shower room.

Lady from Parma, Italy, June 2015:  You’re special!
